So I got those old receiving blankets and started ripping them up! I eventually decided the rug would go nicely infront of my washer & dryer.
I would, however, like to warn you of two things before you try and attempt this project. 1. Make sure it's not too big a rug. I measured the rug out to go infront of my washer and dryer but realized the space was a bit bigger than I first thought. 2. make sure you have the time! I quickly found myself braiding and hand-stitching for a good week or two, but I think it was worth the work because I'm so proud of how it looks! Definitely a nice splash of color to my dark and dreary laundry/storage room.
And now... I know you've been dying to see how it turned out...
Looks so good Danae :) You did a fantastic job... totally a lot of work though... I see what you mean about not picking too big of a spot to fill! I can't believe you have time for that kind of project just weeks before you move though! You're awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great Danae and what a super idea! It looks so soft and comfy too. I love the fb page with the little toes!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - can't believe I haven't see this before now! LOVE it! I've been wanting to try this for so long but INCREDIBLY intimidated by it! It turned out fantastic! How many blankets did it end up taking?
ReplyDeleteit definitely wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, it's just really time consuming! (I guess depending how big you want to make it) I ended up using about 9 recieving blankets (3 blue, 3 yellow, and 3 pink). the only thing about the recieving blankets is that they are shorter than a bed sheet, so the transitions between each strip was way more than if a bed sheet was used. I still need to figure out a backing for it, to make it more stiffer, but pretty excited how it turned out!
