About Me

My photo
I am a wife to an awesome husband and a mom to 2 cute kids, 3 & 1. I love finding creative things to try, both with my 3 year old and on my own. It's hard to find time to be crafty between wife and mother duties, but when I find the time... it's a craftiful life! I hope some of the projects I write about will inspire you to have a craftiful life too!

A clean craft room & an organized recipe book... what more could you want?!

Annnnnndd I'm back from my hiatus.  4 months is way too long.  I will try hard to write sooner next time.  Thankfully baby #2 is amazing and I have had lots of time to still be crafty.  (Nap time is a wonderful thing!)

Here's a few things I've finished over the last few months:

1. Craft room - it was a disaster zone! It got to the point where I couldn't even work in the room and started taking over other parts of the house... to my husbands dismay. So I took the plunge and did some major cleaning and throwing away!

ok, so my before picture doesn't even measure up to how bad it really got, but you get the picture...

Before:

After:

I was in need of storage and found these white cubes at Michaels, a little pricey, but you can find them on sale every now and then!

Now I can at least sit at my desk!
(once I find a chair!)

2. Recipe book - it was in need of desperate organizing. There were recipes falling out everywhere! Some were handwritten, some were typed, and some were torn out of magazines.  It needed to be organized, but my dilema was how I wanted to orgainze them. Did I want to put them in a book where I could see them all.. but then couldn't take them out? Or did I want to put them in a recipe box where I could pull them out... but couldn't see them all?

So I came up with a solution to both my problems, a book that I could put recipes in, but also take them out! (I know! so clever!)

Here's my finished product:

Took an old photo album

Typed & printed out all my recipes on 3.5" x 5.5" cards
(this actually takes a lot longer than you'd think!)

Cut pieces of patterened paper to fit inside photo sleeves

Cut out tabs to divide recipes into categories

And that's my finished recipe book!
Now I'm excited to do some cooking!

The Countdown is On!

The home stretch is finally here!!  And by that I mean, baby #2 will be here in just a few weeks!  The last couple days/weeks I've been "nesting", apparently this is what pregnant women do just before baby comes.  So, my days have been busy with cleaning and organizing, because I know I will have absolutely no extra time on my hands once baby comes.  But I have managed to complete a few crafty things amongst the cleaning.

One of the projects I decided needed doing was filling the frame in our living room with something other than christmas, it is February after all and the christmas decoration must come down.  I decided to try something different.  I got my cricut out and some vinyl and created some wall art, but because we're renting I didn't want to stick the vinyl onto the wall, so I used the glass and frame and stuck it onto the glass.  I think it turned out really great!  What do you think?

I've also been frequenting our new Dollarama store.  And you wouldn't believe how many cheap craft supplies you can get there!  I was looking for something to finish my kitchen and I found these pots for $2 and some greens for $1 each.  Stuck the greens into the pots and there you go... quick and easy plants that don't need watering!  I think it looks fresh and really brightens up the kitchen and an added bonus... the plants will always stay green.  :)

Hope you enjoyed a few more peeks at some of the things I've been working on.

A Changeable Wall Hanging

I'm back to blogland.  It's been a while, but I'm finally home from the holidays and have finally found some time to sit down and write this long awaited post.  Early in November I started a small project that ended up getting bigger and bigger!  Well, it's finally ended and I can now show you all!  (I know the anticipation is killing you!)

The idea came when I was browsing through some blogs and found this neat decor idea.  I thought it would be a great gift for Christmas and soon decided it would be perfect for my mom and mom-in-law.  The idea came from Dittle Dattle's Family Wall Hanging

I started off with just the word family, but I started thinking and came up with an even better idea...  "What if I made a few words that could be changed through-out the year?!"  SO that is how my little project expanded into a bigger one. In the end I made two sets of three words and here they are:

I am so glad I finally got to share this with you!  Hope everyone had a great Christmas and I wish all the best to you in the New Year!
